# Welcome & Goodbye

> Create join and leave messages with member and server variables.

## Channel messages

Welcome and goodbye have prefix-driven configuration actions. Each channel can have its own template.

## Temporary messages and DMs

Welcome also supports temporary channel messages and a direct-message template. Temporary messages are removed after 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

## Rich messages

Use the feature's variables command to check supported placeholders. Embed and Components V2 templates work through the greeting parser.

## Command reference

Examples use the default comma prefix. Required inputs use angle brackets; optional inputs use square brackets. Each command notes whether it is also registered in Discord's slash menu.
